Senior Research Assistant in Molecular Microbiology/Biochemistry Full Time – Fixed-Term for 18 months
Working in the well-appointed laboratories of the Department of Applied Sciences at our Newcastle city campus, you will conduct research that is expected to drive innovation in drug and vaccine development. Specifically, you will investigate lipid modification of proteins in the outer membrane of mycolic acid-containing bacteria, predominantly the equine pathogen Rhodococcus (Prescottella) equi. We expect to demonstrate that protein lipid modifications are relevant to the virulence of this pathogen and its close relatives, including important human pathogens.
You will have a PhD in a relevant biological discipline with experience in bioinformatics, molecular cloning, protein purification and biochemical assays. Some knowledge of proteomics and/or assay development is also desirable. We wish to appoint an excellent communicator with well-developed research and analytical skills who has the ability to work as an integral and co-operative member of our research group.
